KEY CONCEPTS

The important areas you need to wrap your head around before you start getting creative!

  • Real-time marketing is where Microsoft is currently focusing a lot of it’s time and efforts to develop looking at the most recent Wave release plans.

It is a platform that allows Marketing Teams to engage with customers directly in the moment when a specific action is taken, which will then trigger the delivery of personalised communication.

    Example One
You’re in your local restaurant. You sign into the Wi-Fi. A week later you receive a text message with discount for your next visit

    Example Two
You go online to shop for the perfect outfit. You get side tracked and forget to purchase the items in the basket. An hour later you receive an email to ask if you are still interested in purchasing

    Example Three
You are looking at your local hotel and want to organise an event. You request to download the events brochure and two minutes later you receive it to your inbox

  • Outbound marketing thrives in B2B marketing automation. It enables users to send emails, create forms and capture leads that marketing departments can score, grade, and then hand off to sales teams. This is more about nurturing contacts over a period of time and gradually building the relationship to ensure they are Sales ready, so the Sales team can hit the ground running.

    Example
Think of a generic Marketing Campaign where emails are sent to promote a product or service regularly over a period of time; whilst personalising the content to that individual.

  • Both Real-time Marketing and Outbound Marketing enable users to be taken along a journey of communication and interaction. The difference between the two if the timeine of the interactions inititing. Real-time Mareting is instant, whereas Outbound Marketing tends to be used to start on a certain date.

Its is this orchestration of interactions with a customer, which is designed to guide and engage contacts using automated messages and activities whilst ensuring content is personalised and tailored to the contact at the receiving end

  • Transactional emails
These are emails that are sent in response to a customers interaction such as receiving a receipt or updating a password. They do not require consent for communications to be received.

    Commercial emails
Thee are emails that promote a product or service and require the audience to opt-in for receiving the promotional content. Think of subscribing to mailing list to receive updates and offers. And individual may want information from the Technology department, but they may not want to receive updates from the Clothes department.
