Scottish Summit 2023
Scottish Summit 2023 was my first D365 Community event as an attendee and as a speaker! Wow! What an event! I've been to many industry specific events as a marketeer but I was truly blown away by the number of sessions available. We truly were spoilt for choice and was so torn on which sessions to attend; looking forward to gaining access to the slides on the information that I missed!
I attended Sharon Sumner & Tom Firth session on Bridging Low Code v Pro Code development with the Microsoft platform. I particularly enjoyed their insights on requirement gathering and understanding at what point pro code is inevitable; the skills gap in the industry is something that surprised me! I really hope to be able to take forwards the insights provided around collaboration and utilising the development skills that are available at low code level. Thank you for a great session! (so sorry, I was so engrossed in your session I forgot to take a picture!)
I then attended Laura webbs session on PowerPoint to Power Apps. I've personally been using power points to sketch out mini customer journeys, as I prefer this over other software as it is less clunky for me to build a visual quickly. I did not realise the full capabilities of PowerPoint though 😲
Laura demonstrated how we can use PowerPoint to create icons, UX ideas, recording clips, audio, and change the page layout to A4 etc (didn’t know you could do this!). I will definitely be taking some of these learnings forward and utilising it for my Proof of Concept work; thank you.
I also attended Matt Hopkinson 20 Best Coding Practices to help make code more easily readable and perform better for you in the future. I liked the concept of being more savvy and re-using code where you can, rather than having to re-write lines and lines of code. Work smarter not harder after all! For me who lives mostly in the D365 Marketing world, code fascinates me and I found it a great opportunity to begin to learn about the best practices of writing code, and being able to read code more easily. In my world, understanding HTML for emails is important and I believe some of the best practice that Matt discussed is definitely transferable with regards to labelling of code too.
Note to self : if Jonathan (my partner and guinea pig for my presentation on marketing) can understand my HTML…. Then I have written it well!
Finally I held my own session D365Marketing : The real working world benefits to the Marketing Department. Firstly thank you so much Scottish Summit for giving me the opportunity to be able to share my thoughts and ideas from a Marketeers perspective. Secondly, Laura Webb provided this doodle of my session which I L. O. V. E!
I've truly fallen in love with the Marketing App and it's endless possibilities. During my session I spoke about the harsh realities to the Marketing Department:
GDPR
Modern Day Consumer Expectations
Working in Silo
Data
The Marketing App has so many features that help with these pain points, and I am in the process of turning my slides into mini blog posts.
I have also recorded my slides from Scottish Summit and will be uploading a video of this soon!
But for now, thank you Scottish Summit! I cannot wait for next year
